Forrest urged to ignore Tottenham interest

Celtic winger James Forrest has been urged to reject any offers from Tottenham and continue his development with the SPL side, Sky Sports reports. Scottish Football Association director Mark Wotte has given his view on the 20 year old’s situation, stating he would be better served to stay at Parkhead.

Wotte said: The worst thing that can happen to him is that he could sign for an English Premier League club and not play. That could stop his development. It’s up to Jamie Forrest and his family, and up to Celtic whether they want to sell him or not. I’ve listened to him and he says very clever things, I don’t think we need to worry about Jamie Forrest.’

Spurs are interested in signing the Scottish international, who has showed some potential with Celtic, and Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has publicly declared his interest in Forrest. The attraction of Champions League football would interest the 20 year old, but his first-team opportunities would be limited with the current form of Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon on Tottenham’s wings. Forrest has spoken about the reported interest and has admitted that whilst it is appealing and flattering, his focus is on Celtic for the meantime.

The 20 year old said: ‘It is obviously good to hear, but it doesn’t bother me. The main thing is I want to keep playing well with Celtic. I am not thinking about it. We’ve still got the second half of the season to go with Celtic. It is still early doors right now and all we need to do is hopefully keep our good run going and keep winning games. As long as I’m doing well and the team’s doing well, I am happy.’
