Fulham set sights on Catania forward Maxi Lopez

Fulham are among a host of clubs vying for the services of former Barcelona striker Maxi Lopez, according to UKPA. The Cottagers have experienced tough times in front of the net this season, with just 22 goals from 20 outings, and speculation persists over the futures of their current strike partnership, Bobby Zamora and Andrew Johnson.

Lopez currently turns out in the blue and red of Serie A outfit Calcio Catania, and has proven a big hit since joining the Sicilian club in January 2010, but Rossazzurri sporting director Pietro Lo Monaco has confirmed a big has been received from the West Londoners, though he also stated that developments are anticipated from other Italian clubs also.

He told Radio Mana Mana: “There are no developments as yet, but an offer has been received from Fulham and we are evaluating it. We are waiting to see what the Italian clubs will do. AC Milan are definitely out, while we will see what happens with Fiorentina. Lazio? I don’t think they need Maxi.

The player’s agent Andrea D’Amico confirmed that “several European clubs” are interested in signing the 27-year-old. Refusing to comment on Lo Monaco’s statement, he claimed that concrete offers would be required before the situation would be assessed. He told Sky Sports: “I don’t comment on Lo Monaco’s words, you have to ask him. For our part we are waiting for news, this is an evolving situation. We are at a phase of work, because every day there are so many contacts and many voices.

“Maxi has been linked to AC Milan, Inter, Fiorentina, English and German clubs, but before speaking, I expect something concrete.
