Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is relishing a trip to Manchester City in midweek and reveals that he does not fear the league leaders, The
Gerrard made his return from injury over Christmas and scored in his second game back on Friday night as Liverpool beat Newcastle 3-1. The England international has set his sights on Manchester City as the two sides face each other in the league and Carling Cup semi-final in quick succession. Without Gerrard in the side, Liverpool picked up a point against City at Anfield and should really have had all three. Gerrard looks better than ever on his return and will be ready to try and inflict a first home defeat of the season on City.
The England international watched the 1-1 draw over a month ago at Anfield and believes that his side should not be fazed by the trip to the Etihad Stadium. A win at City could give Liverpool great momentum heading into the New Year and push them further up the table.
Gerrard said: ‘They are a fantastic team who have started the season really well, but we’ve got nothing to fear. We showed against them here a couple of weeks ago that we more than matched them. These are exciting games, we don’t fear these and these are the games as a player you want to play in. I can’t wait. We’ve been very strong on the road. We will give it our best shot and see where it takes us.’
