Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has insisted that the ‘glory days’ can return to Anfield, reports ITV
Gerrard, 31, has struggled with injuries this season, but has still managed to amass five goals in eleven appearances. However, Liverpool have struggled in his absence, and currently sit in 7th place in the Premier League table. This comes after a disappointing 2010/11 season, in which they finished 6th.
However, Gerrard believes that the side can still win trophies this season, and will return to their best given time. “We have to believe and be patient, it will happen,” he said. “We’re confident that we’ve got the players in the squad, and we’ve got confidence in the new owners and coaching staff that they can continue to move the club forward.”
Liverpool gave themselves a real chance of winning silverware this season by defeating Manchester City in the League Cup semi-final this week, and beating Manchester United 2-1 in the FA Cup today.
