Jordan Henderson insists that Liverpool can compete with Manchester City when they travel to the Etihad Stadium tonight, The
Henderson moved for £20m from Sunderland this summer, but has struggled to fit into the Reds midfield. The England under 21 star has also seen his chances dwindle by the return of captain Steven Gerrard, who was inspirational against Newcastle on Friday night. Henderson insists his new side have outstanding players like Gerrard who can cause City problems.
Liverpool have lost just once in seven games since Sheikh Mansour bought City in 2008. The Abu Dhabi billions have allowed City to forge ahead in the league, but Henderson believes Liverpool are confident of victory at the Etihad Stadium. The former Mackem would have been delighted to beat the Magpies on Friday night and believes that win gives the club great confidence.
The midfielder said: ‘I don’t think City are leagues ahead of the rest of us. Obviously, they have some outstanding players and are a good team. But we’ll go there looking to put up a good fight. Beating Newcastle on Friday gives us a massive boost going into the City game. We’ll go into the game in confident mood and we know we’ll need to produce a good performance’.
