Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has reaffirmed the squad’s desire to win the FA Cup ahead of their potentially explosive FA Cup fourth round tie with QPR, chelseafc.com
The Blues were 4-0 victors over Championship side Portsmouth in the last round and will be looking to continue their form against their West London rivals. Chelsea have a fantastic pedigree in recent competitions and have won the trophy three times out of the last five, so Ivanovic knows the squad are keen to repeat their victories. The Serbian defender has been a defensive rock for Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas so far this season, but could be on the bench as Gary Cahill looks to make his Chelsea debut.
The Serbian revealed that he used to watch the FA Cup when he was younger and insisted that domestic competitions are important for a club. Chelsea will be eager to erase the bad memory of the trip to Loftus Road earlier in the season, where they lost 1-0 and had Bosingwa and Didier Drogba sent off.
Ivanovic said: ‘The FA Cup is very important. It’s a competition with the biggest history in the world and every player respects that and wants to win it. It’s a good trophy to have in your collection. The FA Cup in this country is only marginally placed behind the league in terms of prestige, the supporters care about it a lot, and this gives a special feeling in matches. When the smaller teams play against a bigger side and show a lot of heart, supporters can relate to that.’
