Kalou edges closer to Arsenal move

Chelsea striker Salomon Kalou looks set to leave Stamford Bridge in January and is in talks over a shock move to Arsenal, Metro reports.

The 26 year old joined the Blues in 2006 from Feyernoord and is out of contract at the end of the season. Kalou has made over 200 Chelsea appearances, but has fallen out of favour with Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas this season. Talks over a new deal with Chelsea have stalled over Kalou’s wage demands and that has paved the way for an exit from Stamford Bridge.

Arsene Wenger is a big fan of the Ivory Coast international and could sign him for £3m before the end of the transfer window. Arsenal are looking to add to their attacking options and Wenger believes Kalou is a better quality than current Arsenal forwards Andrey Arshavin and Marouane Chamakh. Gunners fans would have to wait to see Kalou in action, as he is currently away on international duty competing in the African Cup of Nations.

Arsenal are without Gervinho at the tournament and when Thierry Henry’s loan deal with the club expires in late February, Wenger wants a new forward in place. The Gunners have told the BBC that any talk of a deal is untrue and that no talks are planned, but the availability of Kalou interests Wenger. The Ivorian would link up with compatriot Gervinho should he move across London, but Arsenal are denying any negotiations at this current time.
