Robbie Keane believes that a move to Stamford Bridge would be a step down for Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric, because Spurs are better than Chelsea, The
The former Spurs striker has been training with the North London side during the MLS off-season, but has completed a seven week loan deal to Aston Villa. Keane believes there would be little point in the Croatian playmaker moving to Chelsea, despite the interest from Andre Villas-Boas. The Blues tried to sign Modric three times in the summer and failed with every bid, due to the stubbornness of Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to keep the player.
Keane, who spent eight years at White Hart Lane in two different spells, insists that Spurs are the main power in London and have the quality to be the best in the league. The Republic of Ireland striker has praised the squad mentality at Spurs and hopes that Harry Redknapp’s side have the chance of winning the league title this season.
‘I’m looking at Chelsea trying to get Luka – it’s going to be very difficult now to convince them to go there, because it’s looking like Spurs have overtaken them. There are top, top players in that Spurs squad. If you look at their performances over the last 12 games or so, they look like a team that can stay there for some time. They will challenge for the title. There’s no question of that’, Keane said.
