Highly rated Genk midfielder Kevin De Bruyne is set to undergo a medical at Chelsea today ahead of a £6.7m move. The 20 year old will sign a five year deal with the Blues and then be loaned immediately back to Genk until the end of the season.
De Bruyne is rated as one of the brightest prospects in European football and will become the club’s second January signing after the capture of Gary Cahill for £7m. Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas admitted on Friday that the club’s pursuit of the 20 year old was nothing to do with him, which leaves questions as to where De Bruyne will fit in the Blues plans.

Villas-Boas signed Spanish international Juan Mata in the summer and has played him on one wing along with young England international Daniel Sturridge on the other. De Bruyne has impressed with Genk and has been linked with the Blues since last January. New Chelsea goalkeeper Thibault Courtois was signed from Genk in the summer and has been sent on loan to Spanish side Atletico Madrid until the end of the season.
A Genk spokesman confirmed that De Bruyne was in West London and would see out the rest of the season with Genk before moving to Chelsea in the summer. The 20 year old has scored five times for the Belgian side this season and faced Villas-Boas in the Champions League this season.
