Liverpool plan life-time bans for racist abuse

Liverpool have confirmed that they will give lifetime bans to anyone found guilty of racially abusing Oldham defender Tom Adeyemi, The Daily Mail reports.

Adeyemi was allegedly racially abused in the FA Cup tie at Anfield on Friday night and the 20 year old was visibly upset on the field of play. Merseyside Police arrested a 20 year old man from the Aintree area of Liverpool on Sasturday night on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence. The club have been left reeling following allegations that one or more supports on the Kop racially abused the young Oldham defender.

Fans were also heard chanting the name of Luis Suarez as a distraught Aadeyemi tried to cope with the aftermath of the abuse. Liverpool players went to check that Adeyemi was okay and the club are determined to find the fans who abused the young Oldham defender. The club issued a statement on Saturday night which revealed the serious nature they are treating these allegations.

‘Liverpool Football Club continue to work closely with Merseyside Police to establish all the facts surrounding the incident. We have provided the police with the vidence we currenly have available to us. This includes CCTV coverage and still photography of what we believe to be the relevant part of the stadium, statements from stewards in that area and full access to all the footage captured by the cameras filming the match from our-in-house TV operation’, Liverpool’s statement said.
