Lyon enter race for Tottenham defender Corluka

Tottenham right-back Vedran Corluka is the target of moves from French side Lyon and Italian club Roma as the January transfer window closes, The Mirror reports. The Croatian international has fallen out-of-favour at White Hart Lane in recent months due to the outstanding form of fellow right-back Kyle Walker.

Corluka is desperate for first-team football to try and keep a place at the European Championships in Poland and Ukraine this summer. Roma want to take the defender on-loan until the end of the season and now Lyon have moved with a rival bid to match the Italian side. Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp now has to make the decision whether he wants to keep Corluka at the club or allow him to go on-loan with the potential of a permanent deal.

The 25 year old joined Redknapp at White Hart Lane after a season at Manchester City and emerged as a dependable right-back for Spurs. Walker’s emergence in the England set-up and the Spurs first team has pushed Corluka to the sidelines and the Croat has only made three league appearances this season.

Roma are pushing for a European spot and manager Luis Enrique is eager to sign Corluka, but Lyon have placed themselves as a regular Champions League side and offer a great package to the Croatian international. Corluka does not want to leave Spurs, but needs to get more first-team football and will be happy with a loan move short-term.
