Roberto Mancini has confirmed that Manchester City will appeal the red card shown to defender Vincent Kompany during Sunday’s 3-2 FA Cup defeat to Manchester United, BBC
Kompany received a straight red card on 12 minutes after a tackle on Nani, and now faces the possibility of a four match ban after being dismissed for the second time this season.
But speaking after the game, City manager Mancini said: “We will do an appeal and I am sure that we will win an appeal.
“There is no way Vincent shouldn’t play against Liverpool in the Carling Cup semi-final on Wednesday. I don’t want to talk about this incident. It was 300% not a sending off.”
Should the club fail in their appeal, Kompany would miss both legs of the Carling Cup semi-final with Liverpool, as well as league games against Wigan and Tottenham.
