Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson expects Tom Cleverley, Anderson and Ashley Young to return to training over the next few weeks, BBC
Young and Anderson will join up with the first-team squad in training this week after their slight knee injuries, but the best news for Ferguson is the return of Cleverley. The 22 year old impressed earlier this season and was called up to the England squad, but an injury against Everton in October has kept him out since then. Cleverley is two weeks away from rehabilitation and the United boss is delighted with his return.
Ferguson said: ‘It’ll be great to get the boy back as I think he’s special. He’s nowhere near the first team at the moment but he’s doing a lot of running. He’ll be a terrific boost. Michael Carrick’s form has been unbelievable – he’s been playing fantastic – and we’ll also have Giggs, Scholes, Cleverley and Anderson, so that’s a great group of midfield players that will definitely help us’.
United face Stoke on Tuesday, but the midfield trio will not be available. Many have called for the club to buy more midfield players in January, but Ferguson is unprepared to just make moves and brought Paul Scholes out of retirement earlier this month. That move has proved well and the 37 year old has been one of United’s most consistent performers since his return against Manchester City in the FA Cup third round in early January.
