Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has four injury worries ahead of Saturday’s huge FA Cup fourth round clash with Liverpool at Anfield, ESPN
Rooney, Nani and Jones all picked up ankle knocks in United’s 2-1 win over Arsenal last Sunday, whereas Ferdinand is still struggling with a recurrence of his back problem. Reports have suggested that Rooney has not trained all week, but his problem is not long-term and he may make the game against Liverpool. Nani and Jones are expected to shrug off their worries and start at Anfield, but Ferdinand is still a worry.
United have suffered from injury problems all season with injuries to Tom Cleverley and Anderson weakening their midfield at the start of the season. A bowel disorder has ruled out Darren Fletcher indefinitely as well as defender Nemanja Vidic out for the season with a cruciate knee ligament injury. Ferguson is expected to test the fitness of all four players in training today and will look to start them all against Liverpool.
The fourth round tie is expected to be volatile and Ferguson will want the experience of Ferdinand and Rooney in his squad to deal with such an important game. The United boss said: ‘I can’t give you much of an update. Hopefully we’ll have two or three training this morning and we’ll be better by tomorrow. It is not the best situation for us.’
