Young Arsenal defender Ignasi Miquel is hopeful that he can fulfil a lifelong dream by playing at Wembley, but for the moment, Miquel is concentrating on this weekend’s FA Cup tie, arsenal.com
The Gunners have their best chance of winning the competition with Manchester City already eliminated and Liverpool or Manchester United going out after they were pitted against each other. Miquel has ably deputised for the first-team defenders out with injury and the young Spanish defender is focused on Villa first before thinking about playing at Wembley. Arsenal have not won a trophy since the 2005 FA Cup and are desperate to erase the memories of their shock loss to Birmingham City in last year’s Carling Cup final at Wembley.
Miquel said: ‘These games are completely different from the league, so anyone we play will be a hard game. Of course the big teams have a good chance in the FA Cup, but you have to stay focused and make sure you beat who is in front of you. It is a dream to play at Wembley in a big final. First, we have to go step by step, but obviously if we can get to Wembley it would be a big, big thing for us. We have not won a title for quite long, so it would be great for us. But our next game is on Sunday against Aston Villa and we must focus on that. If we keep working and stay mentally strong we can get through it.’
The 19 year old is expected to start for Wenger at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday and is hoping for the same electrifying atmosphere as the last round against Leeds United. That game was Thierry Henry’s comeback for the Gunners and Miquel is hoping the Arsenal crowd can forget the weekend loss to Manchester United and get right behind the team.
