Richards angry with penalty decision

Manchester City defender Micah Richards has told his club’s official website that he thinks referee Phil Dowd made the wrong decision in awarding Liverpool a penalty. The penalty was awarded for a handball by Richards but his defence is that the ball deflected of his knee and the struck his arm so it was unintentional.

Richards said: “I think the ref made a poor decision for the penalty. It struck my foot and has gone on to my hand. I don’t know what he expects me to do with that. But it was a decision. I won’t say it has cost us, but it has clearly played a massive part.”

The 23-year-old went onto say that although he respects referees, it does become difficult to when poor decisions are given against your team: “I give my full support to the referees but, with those sort of decisions, unless you are 100% sure, you shouldn’t really be giving them.”
