Rooney and Pique take on FIFA 12 winner

Francisco Cruz’s prize for winning the 2011 FIFA Interactive World Cup was a chance to travel to the Ballon D’Or gala and play EA Sports FIFA 12 against Manchester United star Wayne Rooney and Barcelona defender Gerard Pique.

The FIWC is a virtual football tournament which gives football fans the chance to face each other on the latest version of the EA Sports FIFA game and interact around the world. The EA Sports FIFA 12 FIWC can be accessed now through the PlayStation network. Cruz was the overall winner out of 869,543 players in last year’s FIWC, taking home a coveted ,000 along with the invite to the Ballon D’Or and a chance to meet the footballers. The FIWC 2011 winner also spoke with United boss Sir Alex Ferguson at the event, which was held in Zurich, Switzerland.

Cruz said: ‘It’s a dream playing against one of my favourite players. It’s a new experience and I would like to do it again next year; he is a good player. He said he was the best FIFA 12 player at Manchester United and I believe him, as he was very good’.

Cruz’s Portugal comfortably beat Rooney’s England 3-0, which meant double heartbreak for Rooney on the game in recent weeks. The England international was beaten in the final of the FIFA 12 Player Pro Challenge in December by Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott.

Rooney admits that he plays as much as possible and believes it is a great way for footballers to relax with each other before or after matches: ‘I play as much as I can. I think it’s a great game and something that I enjoy doing. There is quite a bit of banter when I play against my teammates, we all want to win so it gets very competitive.’
