Shelvey looking for FA Cup chance

Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is hoping to get a chance for tonight’s FA Cup fixture with Oldham at Anfield, liverpoolfc.tv reports.

The midfielder signed for the Reds for £2m two years ago, but has failed to make much of an impact at Anfield yet. Shelvey spent two months on loan at Blackpool this season and impressed with his goalscoring performances. Liverpool recalled the young midfielder from his loan and now Shelvey is hoping he can push for a start.

Shelvey said: ‘It’d be an honour to help Liverpool go all the way and we’ve obviously got the Carling Cup as well. We could get into the final of that too. Hopefully I can get a shout because the FA Cup would be a chance to show the manager. You’ve got to leave the impression in Kenny’s mind that you’re ready to play. There is obviously pressure on you, but that’s part of being a footballer’.

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is expected to ring the changes for the FA Cup tie with the League one outfit. Experienced defender Jamie Carragher should return to the starting lineup and midfielder Steven Gerrard should get his first start following an ankle infection. The Reds are also expected to use young players such as Shelvey and Jack Flanagan and Jack Robinson.
