Silva insists City will win the title

Manchester City midfielder David Silva has told club supporters that his side will win the league this season and deliver the club’s first top flight title since 1968, The Daily Star reports. Silva dropped in on fans at the Crown Inn and the Lowes Arms pubs in Manchester to profess his ambitions to the City fans.

Silva has been arguably the best player for the Premier League leaders this season, showing his quality as City have stormed to the top of the table. A minor blip in the last few weeks over Christmas was corrected with a 1-0 win over Wigan on Monday night, where Silva collected the assist for the only goal of the game. The Spanish international insists that City’s FA Cup victory last season has given the squad hunger for more trophies and they will hold off the challenge of Manchester United and Tottenham to lift the title.

The 26 year old said: ‘It will be equally as good to win the Premier League title as it was the World Cup and the European Championships with my country. It’s hard on you physically in England and it will be a tough game to win against Spurs. It’s difficult to say who are our bigger rivals, Spurs or United. At the moment we’re out in front and as long as we stay there the pressure will be on the other teams behind us.’

City look to extend their lead over Spurs to eight points with a win at the Etihad Stadium and Silva is confident that his side can keep their 100% home record in the league this season. The Spanish international has developed a feared partnership with Sergio Aguero this season and those two both start for the league leaders against Spurs.
