Suarez eyes trophy after ban return

Luis Suarez has revealed his desire to win a trophy and secure a top four Premier League spot when the Uruguayan returns from his ban, The Telegraph reports.

Suarez is currently in the midst of an eight-game ban after being found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra. The Liverpool forward will miss the Carling Cup semi-final with Manchester City, but is hopeful his teammate can get to Wembley. Suarez returns to the side in February at the earliest and believes in his side’s ability to win their first silverware since 2006.

‘I want to win a trophy for Liverpool. When I came here, the team hadn’t been doing so well, but we are a much better squad now and we are capable of winning trophy and getting back into the Champions League. Last year, I was lucky enough to win the Copa America with my country, something which I never thought I would do and we made history. Now I want to win something with Liverpool’, the 24 year old said.

The Liverpool striker also hailed the return of captain Steven Gerrard following injury and claims that although he knew Gerrard was good, Suarez did not realise how good. The Reds captain returned from an ankle infection over Christmas and Suarez believes that Gerrard’s influence helps the team considerably.
