Harry Redknapp revealed recently that the release clause in the Senegalese striker’s contract is even less than the £10 million initially reported, and it is now thought to be around £7 million. The terms of the deal reflect Ba’s previous injury problems – he failed a medical for Stoke before signing for West Ham last season, and Tony Pulis then described his knee as ‘a ticking time-bomb’.
Despite this, Ba has remained injury free during his time in England. However, regarding a move away from Newcastle, Ba told French radio station RMC, “I’m in Newcastle and the fans like me. The transfer market will be closed when I return from the African Cup of Nations, so I won’t focus on it.”
