Tottenham have been boosted in their pursuit of Blackburn defender Christopher Samba by the news Steve Kean must sell at Rovers, The
Samba is a top target for Harry Redknapp, who believes he is a defender and an attacker away from a serious push for the title. Rovers boss Kean is looking to make some adjustments to his squad ahead of their fight for survival and could use Samba as the finance to change their fortunes. Samba has been the standout player for Blackburn this season, but the Rovers captain is looking for European football.
Spurs can offer Samba that sort of attraction and the Congolese defender is ready to discuss a move with Tottenham representatives. Kean faces a fight to keep his top stars and may be resigned to losing Samba as well as tricky winger Junior Hoilett to the North London club. Redknapp is interested in Hoilett also and could offer £15m for both players.
Redknapp is looking to offload Sebastian Bassong from his squad and could use a bid for Samba to offer the French defender to Kean. Spurs have suffered from defensive frailties and saw William Gallas suffer a torn calf in Tuesday’s 1-0 win over West Brom.
