A slew of clubs have joined the race to sign want-away Spurs midfielder Stephen Pienaar, according to the Daily
The South African has had limited opportunities in the first team since his move from Everton a year ago, and reports have suggested that he may look to move away from White Hart Lane in January in search of a regular starting berth.
Sunderland, Everton, and Aston Villa are the three teams to have shown an interest so far; Everton and Villa would prefer to sign the 29-year-old on loan, although Villa would be prohibited from doing so by the fact that they already have Jermaine Jenas on loan from Spurs, and Premier League rules prohibit more than one long term loan from a single club.
Sunderland, meanwhile, may be happy to stump up Tottenham’s £4 million asking price if the North London club would prefer a permanent deal.
