Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has declared that Frank Lampard has every chance of breaking the Chelsea all-time goal scoring record following his winner against Sunderland, The
Lampard scored one of the luckiest goals of his career after Fernando Torres’ acrobatic scissors kick cannoned off Lampard after hitting the crossbar. The 31 year old is just 21 goals away from Bobby Tambling on the all-time list and Villas-Boas believes that Lampard could break all records. Lampard’s future at Chelsea has been under scrutiny following reports off a fall-out with Villas-Boas, but the Portuguese boss is eager to keep the England international.
Villas-Boas said: ‘He will continue to threaten all remaining Chelsea records. Frank is always a player who has this amazing timing of arrival in the box. It’s no coincidence that he’s one of the best goal scoring midfielders in the world and his timing is magnificent’.
The same goal scoring feats cannot be said for Torres, who was unlucky to miss for Lampard’s goal against the Black Cats. Torres faces an extended run in the side with Didier Drogba away at the African Cup of Nations and Villas-Boas believes time will help Torres to rediscover his goals touch.
Villas-Boas said: ‘He’s getting his good run of games now, finding inspiration, finding motivation, finding form, has all the team behind and the fans behind him, as you saw today’.
