Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has praised Andrey Arshavin’s creativity and insists he is confident that the Russian’s best form will come soon, Sky
The 30 year old has been the subject of constant speculation of a move away from the Emirates Stadium after a series of poor performances. Arshavin has been a source of frustration from Arsenal fans in the last couple of seasons and failed to impress in yesterday’s defeat to Swansea at the Liberty Stadium. The Russian was impressive when he signed for Arsenal from Zenit, but did not keep that form and has seen his first-team chances dwindle.
With the European Championships fast approaching, Arshavin is looking for more football to keep his place in the Russia squad for the tournament. Gervinho’s absence with the Gunners whilst he is on African Cup of Nations duty could give the Russian more of a chance and Wenger believes Arshavin will capitalise. Wenger has praised the work ethic of Arshavin and believes that he makes some important contributions.
Wenger said: ‘We know he has the talent. He has been questioned many times, but his attitude has always been spot on. In the last game specifically, he showed that he needs to play with confidence and freedom, which is his strength. Andrey is a creative player and you need that fraction of belief and confidence to play with freedom. He has always been a player who plays on the borderline’.
