Wenger believes Walcott is getting better

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insists that Theo Walcott has regained his form after a slight dip over Christmas and will be a key player as the season concludes, arsenal.com reports. Walcott has been a virtual ever-present for the Gunners, but did not play well against Swansea in the 3-2 defeat last weekend.

Walcott is second only to midfielder Aaron Ramsey in terms of appearances this season and has forged a devastating partnership with his two forward partners Robin van Persie and Gervinho. With Gervinho now on African Cup of Nations duty, there is more pressure on the England international to supply goals for Van Persie. Walcott missed the Wolves game in December with illness and has been below par since, but Wenger believes he is coming back.

Wenger said: ‘I think he is coming back now. He had a dip over Christmas. I found people were a bit harsh on him at Swansea because in the first half he looked dangerous to me. In the second half he scored the goal and having seen the game again he created some dangerous situations.’

‘The expectation level in England is very high for him because he started at the age of 16. But I still feel he has improved a lot this season. I am confident [that he will sign a new deal] yes, but let’s see’, Wenger continued.
