Wenger insists Szczesny has the much-needed focus

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has the aggressive focus that top goalkeepers need to succeed, according to manager Arsene Wenger, arsenal.com reports. The Pole has been in good form this season and has developed into one of the best Premier League shot-stoppers.

The 21 year old first broke into the Gunners first-team in December 2010 and has not looked back since, establishing himself as a regular on Wenger’s team-sheet. Szczesny is also favourite to hold the number one Polish international jersey for the European Championships this summer and Wenger has hailed the development of the 21 year old. The Arsenal manager is delighted with the focus that Szczesny shows between the posts and is happy that Arsenal’s injury-hit defence can have a confident figure behind them to rely on.

Wenger said: ‘It is good that he has confidence – you feel that when he stands in goal. But as well it is a good mixture between confidence and concentration. I believe a goalkeeper needs an aggressive focus. When I say that I mean a concentration that is ready to fight. If you lose that then you are always in trouble because you need to be so sharp in every reaction you show.’

Szczesny will keep his place in the Arsenal goal for today’s home clash with Manchester United, despite his error that allowed Swansea to score the winning goal at the Liberty Stadium last weekend. The 21 year old Pole has made 21 league appearances so far this season and will be looking to erase the memories of the 8-2 drubbing Arsenal received at Old Trafford earlier this season.
