Wenger will not rush to improve his Arsenal squad

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has insisted that he will not hurry into signing players for the Gunners and will only improve the squad with world-class players, Sky Sports reports. Wenger saw his side lose 2-1 to Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium in a game they really needed to win for their title hopes.

Gunners fans have called for their manager to strengthen the squad considerably, but Wenger has refused to bow to pressure from the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal are suffering a defensive crisis with injuries to all four of their first-team full backs and Wenger had to bring young defender Nico Yennaris off the bench against United. The Gunners were exposed defensively for both United goals and fans are desperate for Wenger to sign a top quality defender, no matter what the price. Arsenal had to play their best central defender Thomas Vermaelen at left-back and Wenger is just waiting for his players to come back.

Wenger said: ‘Spending money is not the target. It never has been in life. We need our players back. We missed 10 players. When you see what we created in the second half, it’s important for us to get the players back.’

Arsenal are now five points away from fourth placed Chelsea and face a clash away at the Reebok Stadium in their next Premier League game on Wednesday 1st February. Wenger will look to strengthen before that date, but has made no move to sign a new defender three weeks after stating he would look into the loan market.
