Anschutz linked with Tottenham takeover

Phillip Anschutz, owner of American entertainment company AEG, is in takeover talks to purchase Tottenham Hotspur, according to The Daily Express.

Anschutz, 72, was recently ranked by Forbes as the 34th richest person in the US, with his net worth estimated at approximately $7 billion (£4.43 billion). He was a co-founder of the MLS, and has previously invested in several of the league’s teams, including LA Galaxy, Chicago Fire, and San Jose Earthquakes.

Spurs are currently owned by English businessman Joe Lewis, who currently lives in the Bahamas., and is worth £2.8 billion according to Forbes. His company, ENIC, owns 30% of Spurs, but according to the article in The Express, has been looking to sell some or all of this stake for some time. Anschutz has emerged as a willing buyer, and would reportedly look to keep Daniel Levy on as the club’s chairman should a takeover be successful. The Express speculates the deal could well be concluded in the next few weeks.
