Arsenal have taken steps to make a move for Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge and believe that they will complete the deal in the summer,
The 22 year old is top scorer at Stamford Bridge with ten goals this season, but is becoming increasingly frustrated with his role as a right winger. Arsenal chief scout Steve Rowley has been to watch Sturridge this season and believes he will flourish in the Arsenal side, if a deal can be done. Sturridge is hotly tipped to make the European Championships this summer, so the Gunners may look to complete a move before the Chelsea striker leaves for Poland and Ukraine.
Sturridge also wants an improved deal with the Blues, but Chelsea are unwilling to negotiate as the striker still has two years left on his current offer. Arsenal are looking for another striker to bolster their attacking options and with only Robin van Persie in real goalscoring form, the signing of Sturridge could help them move back into title contention next season.
Arsene Wenger is excited at the prospect of Sturridge and is expected to send Rowley to Goodison Park on Saturday to cast another eye over the 22 year old. The Gunners are way off the pace for Champions League football and Wenger needs a creative spark next season and a big signing like Sturridge could help tremendously. Arsenal travel to the Stadium of Light on Saturday to take on Sunderland in what is expected to be Thierry Henry’s last Premier League game for the club before his loan deal ends.
