Arsenal tracking Argentinian midfielder Yacob

Racing Club midfielder Claudio Yacob has been earmarked as a recruit for Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal midfield and the Gunners are drawing close to arranging a deal, according to The Daily Mail. Arsenal have made a formal enquiry for Yacob, whose contract with the Argentinian side runs out in the summer.

The 24 year old is often compared to Javier Mascherano in his native Argentina and may be the steel in the Arsenal midfield that many fans have cried out for. Yacob could be interested in a switch to the Premier League and Arsenal are preparing a bid for the summer. Racing Club rate the midfielder highly and would not sell on the cheap, but the 24 year old may be allowed to go because the club can reduce their wage bill.

Yacob was a regular in the Argentina side that won the under 20 World Cup in 2007 and has been on Wenger’s radar for over a year. The midfielder may have to link up with an Arsenal side who are not in the Champions League after their poor season so far, but Yacob is more content to play in the Premier League. Wenger is confident his side will reach the Champions League and be able to attract top players such as Yacob.

Wenger said: ‘Of course I am confident of a top four finish. There is a long way to go. I’m confident we can come back. We have come through a difficult period. We lost three league games but could have won them as well.’
