Aurelio set to leave Liverpool

Liverpool defender Fabio Aurelio looks set to leave the club this summer due to his current contract expiring at the end of the season, The Liverpool Echo reports.

The club have not held talks with Aurelio over a potential new deal and the 32 year old is expected to return to South America to finish his career. Aurelio is popular with Liverpool fans, but he has made only two first team appearances this season under manager Kenny Dalglish. Jose Enrique has established himself at left-back for the Reds and Aurelio has been unable to displace the Spaniard.

Aurelio’s time on Merseyside has been dogged with injuries, including a knee injury suffered when playing football with his children. The Brazilian has made 133 appearances for the Reds and is looking to add to those before the end of the season and his potential exit. Aurelio could feature against Brighton in the FA Cup fifth round on Saturday.

‘I am feeling good. I am enjoying the training sessions every day and improving. I am available and waiting for an opportunity to get on the pitch again’, Aurelio said.
