With doubts over the future of Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech, manager Andre Villas-Boas is lining up CSKA Moscow’s Igor Akinfeev as a potential summer signing, The
The current Blues shot-stopper wants to remain at Stamford Bridge, but his performances this season have not been as good as previous. Chelsea signed young Belgian goalkeeper Thibault Courtois from Genk in the summer and he has impressed whilst on loan at Atletico Madrid this season. Courtois cast doubt over Cech’s future by revealing the injury worries Cech suffers and now the Blues are looking to Akinfeev as a replacement.
The Russian international was on the club’s radar when Cech was struggling with form 18 months ago, but CSKA were not prepared to sell. Akinfeev has just returned from a serious knee injury and is looking to force his way into the Russia side for Euro 2012. Chelsea could be interested in Akinfeev, but will have to convince CSKA with a great deal as the Russians are not keen on selling.
Courtois has been touted as a good signing for the Blues and has gained vital experience on loan at Atletico Madrid. The Belgian is still only 19 and Villas-Boas may want a more experienced player like Akinfeev in the side as the Blues look to get back to winning ways next season. Courtois has revealed that he does not expect to play for Chelsea for another two years and is looking to be loaned to an English team.
