Liverpool left back Jose Enrique remains adamant that his side are still in the race for Champions League qualification this season and will finish in the top four, The
The Reds were beaten 2-1 at Old Trafford on Saturday, which left them in seventh place and four points away from Arsenal in fourth placed. Chelsea’s loss to Everton at the weekend will have softened the blow of defeat for Liverpool, but the Spanish left back insists his side must improve their home form to push into the top four. Liverpool have drawn eight games at Anfield this season and Enrique insists the upcoming visits of Arsenal and Chelsea will go some way into helping their top four bid.
Enrique said: ‘We lost but the truth is that we have to win more games at home. It is hard to beat Manchester United at home but against teams like Blackburn and Swansea at home we need to win the points. We are still in the race to be in the Champions League next season. It’s hard, but Chelsea and Arsenal have lost many points too. Chelsea lost this weekend and we can’t forget Newcastle.’
Enrique has been one of the best performers for the Reds since his summer arrival from Newcastle and believes that with the Reds playing the current top five away from home already, they have the best chance to finish in the top four if they improve their home form. Liverpool face a break from the Premier League with the visit of Brighton to Anfield in the fifth round of the FA Cup, which Enrique is looking to do well in also.
