The Ivory Coast international has produced a string of fine performances to help the Catalans into fifth place in the table and at a meeting on Tuesday the club’s hierarchy gave the go-ahead for boss Mauricio Pochettino to make the deal permanent.
Included in Romaric’s loan contract was a clause stating if Espanyol finished in the top eight or the player appeared in 60 per cent of games then the buyout option would be triggered automatically. Currently, the 28-year-old has played 50 per cent of games and barring injury or loss of form is expected to be a regular member of Pochettino’s starting line-up for the rest of the campaign.
According to AS, Los Periquitos are also considering asking for Slovakian winger Vladimir Weiss’ loan deal to be extended for a further year, provided his parent club Manchester City agree to the arrangement.
