Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has praised his centre-back partner Jonny Evans following Saturday’s 2-1 victory against Liverpool, The
Evans has started more games in the middle of United’s defence this season than anyone but Ferdinand, who has played just one more. The Northern Ireland international received praise from football pundits for his performance against Liverpool at Old Trafford and helped his side get an important victory against their close rivals. Ferdinand has also praised Evans following the game and believes that the negative criticism towards the 24 year old is harsh.
Ferdinand said: ‘Jonny was fantastic. A lot of the stuff that has been said about Jonny is way off the mark. He is appreciated by everyone in the squad.’
With Nemanja Vidic injured until the end of the season, Evans could prove important at the heart of the United defence. Ferdinand also reserved praise for two-goal hero Wayne Rooney and Antonio Valencia for the game against Liverpool. United are in action next on Thursday against Ajax in the Europa League and Evans and Ferdinand may to partner each other once again.
