Ibrahimovic instructs Van Persie to leave Arsenal

AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has told Arsenal captain Robin Van Persie that he has to leave the Emirates Stadium if he wants to win trophies, AP reports.

Ibrahimovic’s warning follows Arsenal’s 4-0 loss in the San Siro on Tuesday, which leaves their hopes of Champions League qualification hanging in the balance. Van Persie has yet to sign a new deal with the Gunners and has put off talks with the club until the summer. Arsene Wenger is keen to hold onto his captain, but Ibrahimovic believes that the Dutchman must move on to further his reputation and match his ambitions.

The Swedish international said: ‘When you don’t win anything for years, people understand why you leave. Football is all about winning. If you don’t win you want to go. I don’t know Robin personally but I remember him from Holland and what a talent he was – now he is complete. I don’t know what he is thinking but I know what I would do.’

Van Persie spoke out after Spanish newspaper Marca linked the Dutchman with a move to Real Madrid and denied the rumours. The Arsenal captain has been in good form this season, scoring 22 goals in the Premier League, but it could be seven seasons without a trophy for the Gunners and Van Persie may look to try somewhere else.
