Kompany insists Man City are mentally tough

Following Manchester City’s 1-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park, bitter rivals Manchester United have gone level with them on points and joined them at the top of the table. Whilst Roberto Mancini’s side still lead on goal difference, Captain Vincent Kompany believes the team are mentally tough enough to see off any title challenge.

Speaking in the Telegraph, Kompany told of his belief that City can overcome the mental barrier of being challenged by habitual title winners Manchester United: “If there is one thing I know about our team it is that we are mentally strong. We have been living with this pressure for the past three and a half years, and it has not affected us.”

The Belgian also thinks any doubt over their title credentials will act as a motivator: “If anything it will give us a boost to carry on and if people want to underestimate us, then please do so.”
