Manchester United face competition from Italian side Juventus and Russian outfit CSKA Moscow over the signing of Granit Xhaka, according
The 19 year old is regarded as one of the best young talents in Switzerland and impressed United boss Sir Alex Ferguson when United played Basle, Xhaka’s club, in the Champions League. Ferguson is looking for a new midfield player and sees Xhaka as the perfect solution. Basle are determined to keep hold of the 19 year old and will not listen to offers for a few months.
Ferguson lost out on Xhaka’s former teammate Xherdan Shaqiri, who chose to move to Bayern Munich in a £10m deal. The United manager will now have to fend off interest from CSKA and Juventus for Xhaka, who is expected to make a big money move in the summer.
Reports in Swiss newspaper Blick have stated that the Russian side are looking to negotiate a £8m deal for Xhaka in an attempt to hold off Juventus and United’s interest. Ferguson will have to move quickly to sign the Swiss international, but if the deal falls through, the United boss is still looking at Christian Eriksen. The Ajax midfielder faces United on Thursday in the Europa League and Ferguson insists he will take a look at the Danish international.
