Manchester United have completed the signing of Swiss defender Frederic Veseli from arch-rivals Manchester City, reports BBC Sport.
Veseli, 19, has spent the past 3 years of his career at Manchester City, as part of their Elite Development Squad. Having failed to earn a senior contract at the club, Manchester United instead become his first senior club. The centre-back has been capped numerous times at the U20 and lower levels for the Swiss international side; this includes captaining the U17 side to victory at the 2009 U17 World Cup.
“I am very happy and it is an honour to sign for Manchester United,” Veseli said in a statement. “I cannot wait to get started; I am looking forward to showing everybody what I can do on the pitch. Manchester United has a long history of younger players coming through, and hopefully I can do the same.”
