Mata settling down at Chelsea

Chelsea’s Juan Mata does not represent the typical professional footballer. Since his summer move from Valencia the Spain international has taken well to the Premier League culminating in his sumptuous volley against Manchester United last weekend in the 3-3 draw.

However Mata studies two degrees at a Madrid University, has a keen interest in marketing and spends his spare time backpacking across Spain and the Greek Islands. Now fluent in English, Mata tells the Daily Mail of how big a change in his life it was to move to Stamford Bridge.

“For me, this move was an important change in my life as a person as much as a player. It was an opportunity to know another city, another country, another culture and another language. I’m trying to know every part of London, to improve my English and enjoy the football.”
