Park praises Man United strength

Manchester United midfielder Ji-Sung Park has revealed that the club should be given great credit for their league position, despite injury problems all season, manutd.com reports. Injury worries to United’s midfield and defence have disrupted their campaign so far, but they are still three points behind Manchester City with a game in hand.

That particular game in hand comes at Stamford Bridge today and United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will be hoping Wayne Rooney, Ashley Young, Nani and Tom Cleverley are back available following injury. As well as those problems, United have had to deal with the season-ending injury to Nemanja Vidic and defensive problems with Rio Ferdinand, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling at one time or another. Park has been able to avoid injury and the South Korean believes that the club’s mentality will be enough to keep them in contention with league leaders City.

Park said: ‘It is part of our history. Last season we had a lot of injuries as well but we kept doing well and we won the title. That shows our squad is very strong, to be able to deal with this kind of problem. Everyone has a good mentality. Even though we have so many players injured, we can deal with that. Then when they get back, they can help fight to win the league. It helps the team to become stronger.’

Chelsea are United’s next opponents and Park is surprised that the West London club are 12 points behind United in the table. The Premier League champions have not won at Stamford Bridge in the league since 2004, but will need to change that fact to draw back level on points with City. Park is expected to start after an impressive performance in last weekend’s FA Cup loss to Liverpool, where he scored United’s goal.
