Poyet hopes for Suarez stay

Brighton manager Gus Poyet comes head-to-head with his Uruguayan compatriot Luis Suarez at Anfield today and hopes that the Liverpool striker will stay in England, The Mirror reports.

Suarez was found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra and in last weekend’s fixture with the Premier League champions, the Liverpool forward refused to shake Evra’s hand. Poyet has backed his compatriot from the first allegation made by the United defender and wants Suarez to stay in England.

Poyet said: ‘I hope he stays here, but I am not sure. There are decisions you have to make in life and it depends very much on how things go for him in the next four months. But I am a fan and I want him to play in England, so I just hope that everything for Luis from now on is normal.I am certain he will come back and play well for Liverpool. For Luis, football and family are everything, the most important things in life.’

Suarez has been linked with a move to PSG next summer, who are keen to take him away from the media frenzy surrounding him in England. The Liverpool striker has been backed by his manager Kenny Dalglish and Suarez is expected to line up against Poyet’s Brighton on Sunday in the FA Cup fifth round.
