Ronaldo could make astonishing return to England

Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo is looking into the possibility of making a spectacular move back to English football and potentially Manchester United, The Daily Express reports. United sold Ronaldo to Madrid for £80m in June 2009 and now the Portuguese international is looking to move back.

Ronaldo turns 27 today and has told close friends that his dream move to the Santiago Bernabeau has been tarnished by the actions of some Madrid fans. Earlier this season, Ronaldo was jeered by fans who questioned his attitude and although relations between player and fans have improved, the 27 year old is restless. United had a huge impact on the forward’s career and Ronaldo misses his former mentor Sir Alex Ferguson, who he regards as a father figure.

After almost three years in Spain, the Portuguese international is missing the Premier League and may be attracted back to Old Trafford if Madrid decide to sell. Premier League leaders Manchester City are also keen to sign Ronaldo, but the 27 year old is only expected to go back to one club if he returns to England. United have plenty of good wingers in Antonio Valencia, Nani and Ashley Young, but the prospect of signing Ronaldo would be one they could not turn down.

Ferguson will not pay the £80m they sold him for, but is expected to break United’s record transfer fee of £30.75m paid for Dimitar Berbatov from Tottenham. Ronaldo has 24 goals for Madrid this season and has helped Jose Mourinho’s side establish a seven point lead at the top of the table, as they look to break the Barcelona dominance and win the league.
