Skrtel warns Liverpool about upset threat

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has called for his teammates to keep their focus ahead of the FA Cup fifth round tie with Brighton at Anfield, liverpoolfc.tv reports.

The Reds have a trip to Wembley next weekend to face Cardiff City in the Carling Cup final, which is their quickest chance to win a trophy for the first time since 2006. Skrtel has been in good form so far this season and has called for his teammates to seize the chance of reaching the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Skrtel said: ‘”I think every game is different. This time we are at Anfield. They are in the Championship but they have a lot of quality. When you play against teams from other divisions they usually work very hard and make things difficult. We have to make sure we are properly focused because it’s a game we need to win. The FA Cup is another opportunity to win a trophy. We’re in the last 16 now and have a chance to go through to the quarter-finals. We have to do everything to take it. This is the furthest I’ve been in the FA Cup so far and I want to go further.’

A win against the Championship side on Sunday would leave Kenny Dalglish’s men one game away from a Wembley visit in the semi-finals scheduled for mid-April. Skrtel has yet to play at the new Wembley and is looking to secure a second trip following next weekend’s clash with Cardiff.
