Tottenham sign Australian midfielder

Tottenham have signed 18-year-old Australian Giancarlo Gallifuoco on a two and a half year deal, according to Goal.com.

The young midfielder recently completed a trial for Spurs, and impressed enough to be offered a contract. The club see him as developing into more of a defensive holding midfielder, or even as a straight out centre-back. He will begin playing with the reserves, but Gallifuoco admitted he is eager to show what he can do if called upon for the first team.

“I was once told at the Australian Institute of Sport that I was not good enough, and here I am on the books of one of the world’s greatest clubs training with some of my heroes,” he said. “I’m thrilled and I have not stopped pinching myself since Spurs offered me a contract.

“We are the reserves side so we have to be ready to step into the team whenever we are needed. It’s a dream come true for me.”
