Villas-Boas aiming for cup glory in bid to up league form

Andre Villas-Boas is hoping that the FA Cup and the Champions League can restore confidence in Chelsea after their under-performing league form, Metro reports.

The Blues were beaten 2-0 by Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday and have now collected just three points from their last four league games. Villas-Boas’ future has been under speculation with rumours of former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho making a return to West London at the end of the season.

Chelsea host Birmingham City in the FA Cup fifth round next weekend and then face a difficult trip to Napoli in the Champions League a week on Tuesday. Villas-Boas is hoping that the cup competitions can spur the club’s league form, which is four Premier League games without a win and currently standing in fifth place.

Villas-Boas said: ‘There are two different competitions now ahead of us and we want to show a different quality. We have one week to prepare for Birmingham and then Napoli. They are two competitions where we are in a good position and we have to rebuild confidence. We are in the last 16 of the FA Cup and we hope to continue to progress. That shows the spirit and resilience in a different competition’.
