Wenger asking his side to recreate Milan victory

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will motivate his side to be ‘audacious’ and provide another memorable Champions League night like their 2008 victory against AC Milan, The Daily Star reports.

The Gunners are in Italy on Wednesday to face Milan in the second round of the Champions League and will be looking to beat the Serie A champions in the San Siro. Four years ago, the Gunners became the first English club to win away at Milan and Wenger will be hopeful for victory. With the Gunners’ current domestic position, they will be hopeful they can win the Champions League for qualification next season.

Wenger has recalled on past triumphs to motivate his players and believes that some of the big-name players in the squad will have the quality to get the victory. Arsenal will have Thierry Henry in the squad for the last game of his current loan spell and the Gunners will be looking for a win to send off the Frenchman in style.

The Arsenal manager said: ‘We won in Madrid in 2006, 5-1 at Inter Milan in 2003, and the 2-0 win against AC Milan in 2008. When you look back and remember, you realise we have won at almost every big stadium in Europe. Yes, we have not won in Barcelona, where we have drawn – but overall I think we have won everywhere. You always have to push for a goal when you play away in the first leg because it gives you a cushion for the second leg. We will try to score, of course – we always do. The system rewards the audacious away from home.’
