Wenger may be lured away from Arsenal

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger could be tempted with the offer to become manager of the French national team, The Daily Mail reports. Current France manager Laurent Blanc may leave after the European Championships this summer and Wenger has been targeted as the next boss.

Wenger has come under pressure from Arsenal fans this season after they have become increasingly frustrated with Arsenal’s difficulty to stay with the Premier League leaders. If the Gunners fail to deliver a trophy this season, Wenger will have overseen seven seasons without silverware. France may offer Wenger an escape route from the Emirates Stadium, which could attract the Arsenal boss.

France Football Federation president Noel La Graet is ready to call time on Blanc’s reign following Euro 2012 and they will identify Wenger as their number one target following return from Poland and Ukraine. Wenger has a deep affection for Arsenal, but is annoyed with the club’s fans who are getting on his back. A chance to manage his country may be something Wenger cannot turn down.

Wenger has not received any approach from La Graet yet, but is expecting contact in the summer over a move. If Arsenal can secure a trophy this season, the Gunners fans may ease off Wenger and he should stay at the Emirates Stadium. Wenger has struggled to attract top players to the club in recent seasons and has also lost his stars in Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, so international football may attract the Arsenal manager for a different challenge.
