Roman Abramovich will ask Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola to become the next Chelsea boss following the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas, The
Villas-Boas’ reign lasted just 257 days before he was sacked at Chelsea less than 24 hours after the 1-0 loss to West Bromwich Albion. Roberto di Matteo has been placed in interim charge until the end of the season, but Abramovich’s future thoughts are towards bringing Guardiola to West London.
Abramovich’s first option is reportedly the Barcelona boss, who he hopes would deliver the vision of turning Chelsea into an English Barcelona. With Guardiola’s current side behind Real Madrid in the title and looking like they will lose out to Jose Mourinho’s men, the Barcelona boss could be interested in testing his abilities in the Premier League.
Former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez, former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho and Fabio Capello have all been linked with the job and Abramovich is expected to be thinking about his decision for the remainder of the season.
The club have announced the reasons why Villas-Boas has been sacked in a club statement which read: ‘Unfortunately, the results and performances of the team have not been good enough and were showing no signs of improving at a key time in the season…We aim to remain as competitive as possible on all fronts. With that in mind, we felt our only option was to make a change’.
